Launch games are often the hardest to emulate because they do horrible shit with the hardware to get stuff working, with games like Ridge Racer V this is very much the case.Īnd a few links for those who dimly compare PCSX2 to Dolphin and rubbish the progress made so far, the PS2 is nothing like your PC or modern architecture (unlike the GameCube and Wii) and poses problems that are not solvable without making the emulator unplayable slow or using hacks.Welcome to r/SteamDeck, the subreddit for Valve's handheld computer. The Retroarch cores have nothing to do with the stand alone, that is why they were called Beetle at the developers request, so people wouldn't report bugs for Retroarch cores to them which is hindsight was a good move.īecause the PS2's motion blur, bloom and other post processing effects were completely designed around native resolution and break when upscaled, there really isn't much an emu dev can do about that. So, before going on about how Switch doesn't have BC, take a step back and think about WHY it doesn't have it, it's more complex than "It's just a business model Nintendo doesn't want to take because they are succesful" Moreover, they went as far with their BC efforts past gen as to allow full digital BC, all while coming from two incredible succesful consoles and without knowing how the new ones would fare. ![]() If one of their consoles lack BC is because of cost cutting measures, as it happened with NES to SNES, or complete change of media or form factor. Nintendo doesn't treat BC as a business model, but as a mean to ease the transition between systems, they have always done it in the handheld space and they did with Gamecube to Wii and with Wii to Wii U. Wii was BC, and by the same logic Switch should have been, but it isn't, why? Because it's physically impossibleĭifferent form factor and, more importantly, different architecture would have mean the need for emulating the Wii U to get BC, but as i said that's physically impossible because, while the Switch is more powerful than the Wii U, it's not THAT powerful, it allows neither emulation nor virtualisation They had a lot to demonstrate and it would have been wise to put every possible feature in the console. Nintendo came from Wii U, an absolutely unsuccesful console in the same manner as Wii, wich came from the gamecube.
